Night Flight

The Revenge L.E.S.S. Productions CD will be appearing in the next few weeks, so I thought I'd give you a heads up on one of the tracks which will feature. We hope to get a tracklist to you in the next week or so. (Thanks to Harri for turning my ears on to the original Stevie Wonder track)

Sensual

Here's a quick refix of a classic piece of deep filtered house from ol' Reel 2 Reel's Subliminal label way before it went "main room". Shows that a house track just doesn't need to be complicated as long as the groove is there.

Biggie
Since we've not been posting too much round these parts recently I thought I'd stick up a number I've dug out for recent DJ sets - "Macs & Dons" off the extra versions of the Notorius BIGs seminal Ready to Die LP. Rough East Coast shizz all the way...

Heads
This track from A Night At The Jazz Rooms has been kicking about for a while, and although all the tracks are nice, the obvious one sticks out for me. Alex Wilson does a great version of this Chaka track. I've tweaked it a bit for my sets over the summer.

Hot Club Joint

Here's an old studio track from the Five20East stable which found it's way into my box again recently. Having only appeared on vinyl many years ago on the Hot Club Joints EP we're hoping to get some remixes done at some point and do a full digital release. Our good friend Paul Joseph shining on vocal duties here.

Fun In The Sun

We played a short but sweet set for our Subcity Radio homies a couple of weeks back on their outdoor stage as part of Glasgow's West End Festival. Little did we know however as we were (roughly) mixing records (Mp3's) that it was all being recorded for posterity! 45 minutes of new and old stuff straight outta the OOFT/Five20East/LESS camp...

Jisco Biscuits

We are proud to wet you ear channels with news that the lovely Jisco Music have just released Cadillac & Planets together (posted some time ago right here) on one large black piece of plastic. It measures 12 inches and is covered in loads of little grooves which contain some of our work (and the work of others of course). Mark E's got a new one out on Jisco too which is damn fine.

Everedit

Here's one I've been using to finish with recently, but it's also a good one for switching down to some reggae stuff or keeping on with some jump-up jungle if the feeling hits. Whichever way - the original is a fantastic song in it's own right I just wanted to lighten it a bit. More power to Mr Grohl and his foo-crew. (14 days on the download)

It's been rinsed over the years by countless producers, but it's always good to have a new take on a classic I reckon. I've rolled it out again for a few gigs recently so I thought you peeps could use it for some of those summer situations.

Our New Friends Up North
As a pre-emtive strike to our first appearance at the renowned club Snafu in Aberdeen, the chaps at the club asked us for an exclusive podcast showcasing the OOFT sound.
Well as you may know we always find it difficult to fit in our range of toons to an hour long mix, but I tried my hardest in this one-take live mix using my trusty Serato. There's some L.E.S.S. exclusives, recent club bangers and a fair few old faves from the last couple of years. Go seek here.

Spanky Gets...
Apologies for the lack of posts around these parts recently - we've been working on some new stuff for our upcoming L.E.S.S. Productions releases. With that in mind here's an edit that didn't make the cut but is still pretty good I think. Quantic & Spanky's jazz-funk outing given an old school acid house reworking, OOFT style.

Dub Your Neighbour

We've got Mark E (Jisco / Running Back) making his Glasgow debut alongside DK (Ninja Tune) for our Bank Holiday bash at Ivy this weekend so I thought I'd post an edit I'd done a while back of one of Tata Vega's tracks (Mark famously reworked Get It Up For Love for Jisco). We'll be supporting alongside our good friend Boom Monk Ben who is now taking care of our bookings through his agency Mixed Bizness.

Hit Em' / Hit Em' Back

We've been topping up our studio tans again. This was initially gonna be part 1 & part 2 but they both just seemed to sit well on the same single. After working hard on the edits for L.E.S.S. it was good to make the switch to a straight-up house jam. Representing NYC and the bassline lovers.
This is out now and as usual, you can buy high quality MP3s from the Five20East store where your custom will be very much appreciated. :)

6th Borough Project

We've got two new L.E.S.S. Productions CD's out next week so here's a peak at a couple of tracks from the first (I'll post some more next week).
LESS005 is 6th Borough Project's "On The Rinse" editing some rare and not so rare funk, boogie, disco. 'Nights Over Memphis' is our deepest excursion for a while and is a small tribute to Martin Luther King's legacy (spookily this week is the 40th anniversary of his assassination - RIP). 'So Glad' is a slice of midtempo, beefed-up-boogie-business. Up for your pleasure for 14 days at 128kbps.

Bow Down To Donald Byrd

One thing we don't feature too much on this blog is hiphop, which is mighty strange as both us OOFT cats are always laying down some hippedy beats when we DJ. Anyways in keeping with posting up forgotten gems that get a regular airing round our way, check this (one of my favourite hiphop records ever) early nineties joint courtesy of Black Moon which samples the beautiful "Wind Parade" by Donald Byrd. Smooth.

Back To The Jack
Next up in the lost gems series of posts is this 80's acid house groover from Jack Frost aka Adonis. Clap Me is all about the groove, with basic drums flitting in and out of the seriously funky 303 pattern. Still sounds great 20 years after it was made.

Apologies for the lack of posts on here recently. Between organising some OOFT parties and working on original material there hasn't been too much editing going on at casas Clark or Herron of late.
So to keep you all sweet I've been rummaging through my recent DJ set lists and am gonna post up some forgotten gems over the next couple of weeks.

Oasis in Detroit
Reclusive detroit dude Omar S has made some of the best deep house and techno around over the last few years, with pretty timeless production. Most of the recordings are live takes, so sometimes I find the arrangement can be a little off. With that in mind heres a quick edit of the track "Oasis Fourteen" from a couple of years back. Play on a big soundsystem for full effect.

The White Stuff

I loved that Joakim edit of JJ Cale's "Ride Me High" from a while back, and it got me into looking at more of the Calester's work. "Cocaine" is another midtempo groover which is rather funky, so I chucked it into Ableton and gave it a quick re-arrangement. 14 days on the download...

DOMU Comes In From The Cold

This Friday (1st Feb) we welcome the man himself DOMU up to Glasgow for an intimate bar-gig at our local drinking-hole IVY. Dom doesn't really need any introduction, after countless years producing top-drawer beats from hip-hop, nu-jazz, and house right through to rollin' DnB bombs.
He rocked the club section of IVY this time last year (live recording below), so we're looking forward to hearing another side of him behind the decks this time. His own recording imprint TrebleO has just released one of my favourite tunes for a long while too - Dorian Concept's amazing "Fort Teen". Check out a low-quality edit of it below, and get yourself over to the TrebleO Store for a proper copy.
Roll on Friday!

Linking in with Harri's new edit CD for L.E.S.S. Productions, here's a rework I did with him a while back that hasn't seen the light of day yet. It's our version of the classic Fatback Band track, "Yum Yum (Gimme Some)". Twisted and rinsed with a bit of beef for the subs. (Limited to 100 downloads)

LESS004 : DJ Harri Lost Edits

Part 4 in our low profile series is an honour to present. This isn't getting a physical mailout until next week, so this is a bit of an exclusive for you. A fine selection of vintage edits courtesy of DJ Harri (Sub Club) tweaked, extended and volumized for DJ use, there is something for all bags / hard drives here. I've personally been playing these out for a good few months and I'm sure you will be too. Formed as a way to introduce small quantities of re-edits and reworkings to DJs directly this series is strictly limited to only 100 individually numbered copies for promotional use on vinyl-style CD single. Last remaining copies are available on high resolution physical format from Five20East's online store. Here's some 128kbp action for the 2 week test.
Herb Alpert - Rotation (DJ Harri Edit)
V.I.P. Connection - West Coast Drive (DJ Harri Edit)
Steve Miller Band - Macho City (DJ Harri Edit)

Gotta Get Up To It

These days I'm getting a bit fidgeted out with all the Switch-sounding house stuff coming out over the last few months, especially as there's so much that individual tunes don't really stand out any more. Its for this reason that I've been going back to the slightly older stuff such as the early Counterfeet and Dubsided releases more and more. One of my top Fidget tracks has got to be Solid Groove & Sinden's "Gotta Get Up", so I gave it a quick once over to present to the loyal OOFT bloggers. Here ya go...

Celebrate Another Year Of Living

Happy New Year from all at Wally World! It's been a while, but trust us, we've got so much material that is soooo close to being finished that we're dying to post for you but you may have to hold out just a little longer. Rest assured, there's some belters on the way. :)
In the meantime, I've dug this out as I've been using it as a great little DJ edit tool recently. A favourite of mine from probably one of the few (maybe only?) white soul-rock bands on Motown. I've edited it to start at 95bpm and then cuts to 107bpm in the break to get you on the horse for the rest of the evening.

This is Slick

This week I have mainly been... tinkering about with a classic! This track was never out my box (so to speak) for many moons when it came out on a limited 12" a couple of years ago. Switch took the fidgety house thing on a step further with his stripped down tracky production and monstrous bassline, and really it doesn't really need any mediocre edits now but I thought, hey, I'd like to start playing it again so I've rearranged and chopped it up so it's a bit the same but different.
192 action for 14 days.

More Revenge (Kind of)

Apologies for the lack of posts recently, everyone over at OOFT Towers has been dropping like flies due to the start of the glorious Scottish winter. Anyways we got speaking to the guys (quite a bit) over the way at I Get Rvng who have just put out their 4th Re-edits 12" from the mightily cosmic Lovefingers, he of the magnificent site Lovefingers.org. The 12" has 4 tracks of seriously tripped out cosmic disco goodness, so we suggest y'all go check it out. As a little taster here's a digital copy of the first track "Kentucky" to whet your appetite...

Betcha Wouldn't Work It

Thought we'd slip you a rough taster of this extended club rework. We're working on a couple of different mixes at the moment which may or may not appear on L.E.S.S. next year. This is the long version which has some of the original Quincy in it over the top of an OOFT dub track which we'll be putting out next year. Check it out and see what you think (14 days only).

Essential Cassius

Whilst I've been doing other things like hoovering, washing-up, putting the kettle on - again, I've been listening to loads of different mixes from the vaults. One that constantly gets the head nodding is the classic Cassius Essential Mix from 99'. Full of energy from start to finish, it captures what a lot of mixes I hear don't (along with a very young sounding Pete Tong bangin' on about Jaffa Cakes). Ok - there's quite a lot of 'bigger' tunes in there, but a lot of them were just breaking through at the time, and that 'French Sound' was rising to it's peak. As always ... it's not what you've got ... it's what you do with it that counts. And they done it alright.
