Deep Space Orchestra

It may be thick with snow on your driveways, but from the farthest corner of the galaxy, a faint radio signal has reached our planet in the form of righteous rhythms and jellyfied basslines sliced through with solar string sections and distant voices ... I'm tripping yes ... but this only makes it better.

Satellite towns around the north of England and the odd joint are as close as they get to space, but Chris Barker and Si Murray's latest project Deep Space Orchestra has been slowly burning a hole in my hard drive since it arrived. One of their little space odysseys, City Streets, features on the new Five20East 12", Death On The Highway, due out in a couple of weeks and they have plenty more in store.

Hope you all had a fantastic Xmas and New Year. We've been working hard to bring you some hot new shizz for 2009. Here's the first horse out of the stalls ...

To celebrate the dawn of a new year and 10 years in existence, Five20East will be releasing the first in a trilogy of 12" vinyl showcasing new material from our artists. The first part, entitled "Death On The Highway", features tracks from Cronk Family Enterprises, Andy Ash, Deep Space Orchestra and Harri & The Revenge. Due for release in February, this release will be available on vinyl only initially with digital versions appearing later in the year. Parts 2 + 3 will appear later in 2009 with a CD compilation to follow.

Just a quick heads up to remind all those in the Glasgow area that you can catch us Djing in the basment of IVY this new years eve from 9pm. We've both been scurrying around finishing some new edits especially so there should be a load of choice cuts aired on the night.

IVY is a lovely intimate venue which is the antithesis of the over-hyped, over-priced club nights that dominate the clubbing calendar at this time of year. So if you're still undecided where to go on Wednesday then you could do a lot worse than come down to 157 North Street...see you there ;)

AA : Dancefloor Assistance

Andy Ash is just about to drop his debut digital single for Five20East next week, so we thought we'd give you a peek at one of the trax. Having already tackled the Walrus Of Love on Forever In Their Debt 4 to much acclaim (how heavy were those beats again? ... Very.) and with material forthcoming on the revered Still Music, this youngster is a runaway train with plenty of cargo. The single, 'AA', is some raw sounding, tracked-up house business with a few twists and has yet to leave my box (brain and crate).

The standard single 'AA' will feature two tracks 'Inkle' and 'Rude Fluid' and will be available from beginning September through Traxsource, Stompy and Juno. The Special Edition which features bonus track 'Night' will be available exclusively from Five20East next week.

It measures 12 inches and is covered in loads of little grooves which contain some of our work (and the work of others of course). Mark E's got a new one out on Jisco too which is damn fine.

Our New Friends Up North

As a pre-emtive strike to our first appearance at the renowned club Snafu in Aberdeen, the chaps at the club asked us for an exclusive podcast showcasing the OOFT sound.

Well as you may know we always find it difficult to fit in our range of toons to an hour long mix, but I tried my hardest in this one-take live mix using my trusty Serato. There's some L.E.S.S. exclusives, recent club bangers and a fair few old faves from the last couple of years. Go seek here.
