RJA07 : Esa

Glasgow's resident South African house aficionado Esa mixes up a decades worth of 4/4 gold in tribute to his late father.
In the short time he's been living in Glasgow Esa has got stuck right in to the house scene and put together several Red Bull workshops with dons such as Linkwood and Josh Wink, as well as bagging himself a resident spot at our favourite local night Subculture. His dad Mervin used to DJ in S.A. back in the day, so to mark a decade since his passing he's delved deep into his collection to put together this blend of some mighty fine classic deep house, fittingly titled "A decade of dedication Mervin Granger Williams '99-'09".
Sorry - no tracklist

Elephanting
Peeped this vid of a rather healthy looking UB's boat party at the Electric Elephant Festival this year. And wait a minute - thats our mate smiler right in the middle with the white t-shirt on! A regular face down at the Sub Club ever since we've been going to see our favourite DJs Harri & Domenic, he's branching out into the worldwide clubbing community these days ;)

Competition : HTIKM

New House imprint, Home Taping Is Killing Music, is just about to launch with a double 12" single from myself (with a supadeep Red Rack'em remix on the first one) and follow up material from some top notch producers (I've heard Chris Duckenfield's ... and it's a belter).

Calling all Glasgow Heads...

Heads up... We're going to be holding down a monthly residency at the Mamasan late-night Bar/Club from next Friday October 2nd, and then the first Friday of each and every month after that.
Part of the Saint Judes Boutique hotel on Bath Street, it's a rather nice place to lay down some beats and will give us the chance to explore all the various sounds we've been punting on the blog for so long over each 4-hour set. So if anyone local is kicking about that end of town, on that particular date, at that particular time then pop in - its free entry. And if you ask nicely there may be some free muso-goodies too ;)

Right On Point

Got this 12" today from one of my fave producers. Been heavily bumping the B-side track Truly for a while now (as anyone who's listened to the recent OOFT mixes will testify), but the title track trumps it - just a beautiful piece of emotional electronic dance music. Both are easy contenders for tunes of the year at OOFT towers.

One For The Weekend

Been a bit quiet on the edits front recently whilst working on original stuff and remixes, but here's a deejay friendly version of Lillo Thomas' midtempo 80s cruiser "Your Loves Got A Hold On Me" for those smooth moments in your set ;)

Tomorrow's Festivities

If anyone in Glasgow or London is heading out tomorrow you can catch The Revenge at Craig Richards & Jamie Jones' new night "Shoplifter" at the new T Bar down in the big smoke.
Locals can catch AliOOFT at the Sunday Circus all-dayer at the Courtyard in Glasgow city-centre.
Best have a good breakfast methinks, as it'll be a long day!

(Com)pressing Matters

I was on a short holiday over the weekend and picked up a copy of the new issue of Sound On Sound magazine for the flight to Viva Espana. It turns out it was a good thing I did as the main feature was a great article on the use of audio compression, which is always seen as a bit of a black art to anyone (such as myself) who has never had any formal audio training.
So if you've every wondered about what compressors to use in a specific situation, or worried about messing around with attack/release times and the like grab yourself a copy now. Article taster link below...

And More...New Track and Mix

A new remix of Vadim Yershov we've done for Discoteca Recordings has just popped up for sale on Beatport. A bit of a different side of our output, this ones a rolling deep houser. Although for some reason they've genred it progressive house - main rooms and dodgy myspace friend requests here we come!
Also I meant to post up the ad for the Discoteca Monthly Radio Show which we supplied a house mix for earlier this week, but due to the fact I've got an 8 month old son and my girlfriend was away for more than 15 minutes I kinda had my hands full! Actually, checking the Frisky Radio site you've got to pay to access the shows so I've directly linked to our mix below ;)

IOR003 Competition Winner
To preface things, i had just mixed in GW edit of Raw DMX, and i replied "what kinda music is it?"
"I RAP ON IT!"
He left the cd with me and dissapeared for a bit,i scanned through the CD. Put it aside. He returned with two pints. Gave me both. And said,
"Track 9, cue it up"
I paused ... looked at the half full dance floor ... Cued up track 9
I said, 'are u ready?'
He pulled out a staff with a skull on the end, which had somehow escaped my attention earlier, and nodded.
I played track 9
He basically lip synched to his own track, which, words can not do justice.
Thankfully ... He has a youtube channel
