Scotland's very own disco don hits us with some funky firepower in this episode.

Finding time to DJ all over the world in between running a plethora of awesome record labels including Disco Deviance amongst many others, Dicky Trisco knows a thing or three about how it should be done. The mix itself is jam packed full of disco edit goodness that'll have you bopping from start to finish. Be sure to check out his new Disco Deviance release on the rinse with Pete Herbert. LESS010

We've had a lot of fun with this limited series of edits since we started. We had no aspirations for these versions, other than to bring a new element to our DJ sets and give something special to the diggers who still relish the hunt for little independent projects like this.

This collection explores some of our favourite undiscovered tracks from the series plus one previously unreleased track. Of course, we couldn't have done it without the original artists, editors and supporters. For this, we are forever in your debt. Thankyou.

** Available with limited L.E.S.S. badge for first 50 orders through Five20East store. This CD is limited to 500 copies worldwide with no repress. Available through Piccadilly, Phonica and Juno late next week **

RJA13 : OOFT!

To celebrate the 10th and final release on L.E.S.S. Productions, OOFT! have created this mix of memorable tunes from the L.E.S.S. vaults.

Fitting all 45 tracks that have been released on the label proved a job too far to cram into an hour-long mix, so instead what you're about to hear gives a representation of what L.E.S.S. was all about - re-imagining songs we all loved into a more DJ-friendly format. Simple. From the loose funk opening of Robert Palmer's "Work To Make It Work" through The Revenge's fixation with new jack swing and onto to percussive disco dubs, it's a fun filled 78 mintues of audio. Plus all of the tracks contained in the LESS010 "Versionitis" release are in there somewhere ;)

Tracklist:
1. Robert Palmer - Work To Make It Work (The Revenge Edit)
2. Andy Ash - Never Give You Up
3. The Revenge - Curtis
4. Primal Scream - Screamadelica (OOFT Edit)
5. Herb Alpert - Rotation (DJ Harri Edit)
6. The Isley Brothers - Between The Sheets (The Revenge Rework)
7. Marvin Gaye - Funky Space Reincarnation (OOFT Edit)
8. Wganda Kenya - Tifit Hayed (Cronk Family Enterprises Rework)
9. Kleeer - Open Your Mind (DJ 2Three Rework)
10. Today - I Got The Feeling (The Revenge New Jack Stack)
11. Ian Dury - Spasticus Autisticus (OOFT Rework)
12. Willie Hutch - Brothers Gonna Work It Out (The Revenge Rework)
13. Michael Jackson - Thriller (OOFT Phazed Edit)
14. Out In The Sticks - In The Dark
15. Francine McGhee - Delerium (Chris Harris Edit)
16. 6th Borough Project - 7 Grams Of Funk
17. Bob Seger - Night Moves (The Hong Kong Micros TR-808 Mix)
18. Foo Fighters - Everlong (The Revenge Rework)

PS The LESS010 CD will be released first on to the Five20East online store a week today, Monday the 25th of January, followed by the usual haunts (Piccadilly, Phonica etc.) later that week.

PPS We'll be open to gig offers (dates permitting) throughout February, March and April to promote the release. Email for more details ;)

Starter For '10

To kick off the posts for this year here's a cheeky little stretched version of the SoS Band's High Hopes. First spied this over on our man Touchsoul's Soundcloud page (well worth a rummage)and got a copy from him, tweaking it very slightly to fit in to our style. And here's the result - seven and a half minutes of mid-tempo finger clicking 80's soul. Belter ;)

RJA12 : Simon Busby

Next up in the series is London-based disc(o) jockey Simon Busby, who turns in a dope mix of pitch-down bangers for your listening pleasure.

Originally crafting instrumental hip-hop mixtapes before discovering the Electric Chair whilst living in Manchester, Simon hit London in 2005 with his much loved Short Circuit night, before creating his new Glitterball events which fill interesting spaces in the big smoke with and friendly crowd and a cool mixture of disco and house. Sounds right up our street! The mix itself has plenty of high points including Mark 7, Pete Herbert, Mark E and more, so tuck in.

Flying High

When I was Djing a couple of weeks ago and dropped the Linkwood & House of Traps jam "Barely Eagle" a guy came up to me raving about the video for the original Dennis Parker track thats heavily sampled in it. Just checked it there and it is indeed ace. That silver jumpsuit is going on santa's list. And the 'tache ;)

Dennis had it all - a day job as a porn actor with a sideline in making disco. Something we can all aspire to! Apart from the contracting aids and committing suicide bit obviously...

That Time Of Year...

...and so it's time to look out the only christmas record required - a Knight Rider christmas! Its a totally fake rip off song not featuring any vocals from the Hoff or anyone, but that makes it better (I think!).

Never managed to find a decent quality version but head on over to the David Hasslehoff archives (!) here and grab a copy ;)

RJA11 : Deep Space Orchestra

We're coming thick & fast now for the rest of the year with a plethora of new mixes to get out before the xmas slow-down. Next up is a cracking mix from our Deep Space Orchestra chums from down south.

Deep Space Orchestra are Chris Barker (Jigsaw/TrebleO) & Si Murray (Cronk Family Enterprises/Jazzchops), two music afficionados hailing from the Liverpool area. With one joint release already out on our Five20East imprint you can expect to hear plenty more from these two in the oh-ten with forthcoming works on Drumpoet and a couple of others which have escaped my mind at present The mix itself is a tip-top blend of deep dancefloor workouts ranging from exclusive digital dubplates courtesy of the boys themselves through to classic chicago and detroit jams.

PS as if having OOFT DJing in Glasgow this Friday wasn't enough, the DSO boys are gracing the city with a debut performance for the Cosmic Microwave night at new venue La Cheetah too, so you're really spoilt for choice ;)

A quick update for the coming weekend - you can catch us both at the boutique Mamasan venue in Glasgow on Friday night for our monthly late night bar / micro club set (11pm-3am). RJA10 : Tosh Ohta

Next up in the series is another new face - Bournemouth based Tosh Ohta. He's a medium sized anglo-japanese crate digger / enthusiast, and has been running his night This Sporting Life at Sixty Million Postcards (the infamous Lock Tavern's sister pub) for 3 years.

The mix spans 3 decades of music, taking influences from everywhere including Factory Records (Quando Quango and Mondays), 80s pop (Kate Bush, Fleetwood Mac), Proto house (Mr Fingers / Psychotropic) and many other places. Tosh's night This Sporting Life has just migrated to London (debuting at the Lock Tavern on Chalk Farm Road) so keep the eyes peeled for more dates in the big smoke if you like the sound of the mix.

RJA09 : Hushpuppy

Resident DJ at the legendary R-P-Z Thursday night sessions at the Glasgow School of Art, Hushpuppy takes us on a cosmic odyssey of the highest order.

The mix gives an insight into the earlier hours of an R-P-Z Thursday, before guests such as Alex Metric & Autokratz (playing live at the end of this month) crank up the pressure and get the Art Schoolers brewing up to fever pitch. Selection-wise this mix is something of a departure from previous Ruffjamz episodes, so we hope you enjoy it as much as we did ;)

Thought I'd give everyone this little ditty myself and Telford from the Sub Club made a couple of months back. We never did anything with it due to the samples used, but I've been playing it a lot in deeper points of a set as it's a great little mid-tempo groover. Enjoy
