American Heart Remixes

We've been busy finishing a few more remixes for Music For Dreams America. There's dub and vocal versions of this one for Bliss on the same EP, featuring the enigma that is Boy George. We left out the A-Team samples.

Thundering Shade

David Griffiths (he of Jisco fame), has taken one step into the future with his new label Under The Shade. Aiming to combine his A&R penchant for fresh underground material and heavy edits, the first release see's new blood Chamboché step up to bat. Remixes come from yours truly and Pete Herbert.

P.s. Mark E has also just finished a single for the label and it's an absolute belter ... ears peeled.

Wogan Chic

Thought this was a great comment and associated picture by Slutty Fringe about the new Major Lazer release ...

"Perhaps the most striking thing about the Major Lazer project for Slutty Fringe is Switch’s current penchant for printed shirts, flat caps and Wogan esque decisions in the pant department"

And More...New Track and Mix

A new remix of Vadim Yershov we've done for Discoteca Recordings has just popped up for sale on Beatport. A bit of a different side of our output, this ones a rolling deep houser. Although for some reason they've genred it progressive house - main rooms and dodgy myspace friend requests here we come!

Also I meant to post up the ad for the Discoteca Monthly Radio Show which we supplied a house mix for earlier this week, but due to the fact I've got an 8 month old son and my girlfriend was away for more than 15 minutes I kinda had my hands full! Actually, checking the Frisky Radio site you've got to pay to access the shows so I've directly linked to our mix below ;)

Sunbursting

I was really pleased to be asked to contribute a remix for Z Records Sunburst Band Remixes compilation a while back. There's some jam-hot versions on the double CD from peeps like The Idjuts, Henrik, Yam Who, Elektrons, Milton Jackson, Recloose ... phew! I noticed the new 12" has just appeared in a couple of shops too which I think has the longer version of my mix on it.

IOR003 Competition Winner

Firstly - thanks to all y'all who entered our IOR competition - it's been hilarious for us reading the entries, and just goes to prove that the job of the DJ is not one to be undertaken lightly.

A tough choice - but we have finally managed to agree on a winner ... PJ, who's anecdote (and associated YouTube footage) swung our votes. Well done mate - we've dropped you an email.

As an added bonus ... and due to our neverending good nature, we've also decided to give our winner AND all entrants into the competition a copy of the new L.E.S.S. compilation on release (date TBC). The comp will feature one track from every L.E.S.S. CD + one bonus track. We'll keep your email addresses on file and will be in touch when the CD's arrive.

And here's the winning entry ...

------------------------------------------

Playing at my old residency in montreal, i was approached by local man about town 'Chuggo'. He got my attention, and showed me a CD, "hey, my album just dropped, you wanna give it some play?"

To preface things, i had just mixed in GW edit of Raw DMX, and i replied "what kinda music is it?"

"similar to this....a bit nastier"

"do you sing on it?"

"I RAP ON IT!"

He left the cd with me and dissapeared for a bit,i scanned through the CD. Put it aside. He returned with two pints. Gave me both. And said,

"Track 9, cue it up"

I paused ... looked at the half full dance floor ... Cued up track 9

I said, 'are u ready?'

He pulled out a staff with a skull on the end, which had somehow escaped my attention earlier, and nodded.

I played track 9

He basically lip synched to his own track, which, words can not do justice.

Thankfully ... He has a youtube channel

Techno Please If Possible

In the spirit of our competition, which is providing constant tittering and guffawing here, here's a scrap of paper we were handed last year at a gig. I thought it was pretty polite and together in most respects. The fact that someone actually formed the thought to politely scribble the request and hand it to us was funny enough, nevermind the fact we were at about 105bpm at the time in an empty festival tent.

Competition : IOR Part Three

We just received a test pressing through for Instruments Of Rapture Part 3 and thought we could pass the love onto one of our faithful blog squad. In return we're asking you to give us your best DJing anecdote / request from a punter whilst in the mix. Try and keep them short and to the point ... the funnier the better.

Just fire your suggestions in the comments of this post (with some sort of contact email) and we'll decide the worthy winner on Tuesday 21st July. A glorious test pressing will be mailed to the victor.

Harri Summer Mix

Harri passed me this exclusive mix for the blog which is stacked full of Saturday night action. No tracklist at present but needless to say it's a good un'.

On a Sub Club theme ... It's a summer of resident's nights at Subculture for a good few weeks so it's the best chance you'll get to see Harri & Domenic playing together in one of the best clubs on the planet.

Buffalo Boys

I did this buffalo stance / buffalo gals version last summer for a few of the festival gigs we were doing and never really finished it proper. But I still find it creeping into sets now and then. After some more requests to send it to people I thought I'd be aswell posting it here ... it may come in handy.

Dropout Boogie

Just a quick nod of thanks to Mark E + Rob J for a fantastic night in Birmingham on Saturday. There was some seriously good music from them both in a great little venue. Don't pass up the chance to check this night out if the opportunity arises.

You can check a recent interview with Mark on RA here ...

Linkwood Food

A nice little documentary on the construction of the Firecracker Intrusion Dubs record.

Universal Truth

Just a quickie to say keep your ears peeled for Andy Ash's forthcoming EP on Universal Vibes records. The young lad from Liverpool has kindly let us include a couple of his workings on some L.E.S.S. Releases so everyone's appetites should be whetted for some seriously deep original productions.

Saturday, July 4

Tonight...

...I'll be flying the OOFT flag north of the border in the new IVY Bar in Glasgow's West End whilst The Revenge is down supplying some beats in the UK's second city at Mark E's Dropout Boogie night. If either of those locations is near then pop down ;)

Some great sets posted up on the Cosmic Boogie site from the Antiplano night that happened a couple of weeks ago in Liverpool. With fantastic sets from Chris Barker, Kelvin Andrews and The Idjut Boys there's no reason for your sound system to run dry this summer.

The next event is August 15th with Mark Seven.

The Domunator will be launching his new album of One Off's Remixes & B-Sides on Tru Thoughts at the monthly Mr Bongo sesh this Saturday 27th June. Don't Sleep

OK ... now you'll think I'm taking the piss ... Who said the summer was a quiet time for putting out records?

Delusions Of Grandeur are racking them up, with their 3rd release in almost as many months. No complaining here though, as it's shaping up to be a superb label to be involved with. Seattle based ZEPP001 delivers "Don't Sleep", a cutting edge piece of cinematic, disco drama. I've stripped it back a bit for my mix and went for some Beltram-esque bass action.

Sunday, June 21

Kept Music

I got this fantastic promo mix CD sent through the other day from Kept Music (a connection to a Mr Grindrod I believe). Designed in a similar way to our L.E.S.S. CDs but with a fantastic iridescent print on the sleeve and a great slo mo mix selection. Not sure if it'll become available at some stage - but maybe we'll get some more info in the comments section if it does?

Saturday, June 20

Dub Praise

Honest ... this wasn't planned ... looks like all the buses arrived at once.

The second release on Phonica's new label is from JC Freaks. "Dub Praise" is a skippy house number with a tripped out acid-disco mix by yours truly. It's just appeared on vinyl through their store if you feel like a splurge ...

Friday, June 19

Space Doubt

Harri has been instrumental in making this track a bit of a Saturday night Sub Club anthem over the past year and it's now having it's debut vinyl release on Roual Galloway's new imprint with a Vera remix.

It's a bit of wild one for most DJs, but I have a lot of respect for those who get behind something like this and make it work because they dig it.

Twoo Sugars Please

One of the many new friends I met in Oz was Driller Jet Armstrong (real name) who runs a fantastic night at Sugar in Adelaide aswell as being an acomplished artist, sunglasses collector and attending to his pet owl. He gave me a couple of his mixes to take home with me - a great northern soul one and this tripped out mid-tempo selection.

If you're ever in Adelaide it'd be a mistake not to take a trip to the club which has played host to Idjut Boys, Greg Wilson, Brennan Green and is doing a special Horse Meat Disco party on July 4th to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the gay rights movement.

I Like A Party With An Atmosfear

Wolf Music kick off their label with the remixes of Atmosfear "Dancing In Outer Space" and two great tracks from KRL this week. Available on limited vinyl now.

Glastonbury

For all those heading down to Glasto this year, I'll be doing the closing set on the Sunday in the Stonebridge tent (11-3) with the Heavenly Records squad. It'll no doubt be a proper mashed-up and messy end to a messy weekend. The tent has plenty on offer over the festival with appearances from Autodisco, Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve, Fourtet, Skream + Benga, Jonno Burgess, Greco Roman etc.

I'll also be doing a jam in The Igloo at some point on the Saturday night for the Futureboogie chaps.

Tuesday, June 16

The 3 Boroughs...

We're not usually ones for posting music that isn't in some way related to our own stuff, but I thought I'd make an exception for this recent discovery - a proper 80's soul track stretched out at the time by the one and only Shep Pettibone. Some of the stuff he was doing with edits and Roland drum machines back in the day is ridiculous considering digital editing was still miles off. Check the crazy cut-up break in the middle of this BB&Q band track for proof.

This has been on repeat over at OOFT towers for the last week, and I suspect I'll be busting this all summer long. Roll on the BB(&)Qs ;)

The Music People

Here's a new mix that I did for our friends The Music People over in Finland. They run a weekly FM radio show over there and periodicallly post interesting finnish-related musical shizz over on their blog too - good guys.

There's some new OOFT stuff lurking in the mix amongst the usual cosmic, bassy and house jams.

IOR003

Here's a quick heads up about the next Instruments Of Rapture release which is due to drop in the next few weeks. We've got an OOFT track making an appearance alongside the usual Revenge belters ;)

Tracklist

OOFT : This Sound
The Revenge : Hotz 4 U
The Revenge : Heavy Love

No Downloads for this at the moment I'm afraid but you can hear our track on the myspace player and on a couple of recent mixes.

Big Guns Face Off

Been a while for fresh edits on here so I thought I'd share a recent one which has been on a couple of mixes etc. It's basically a pitch-down remix of (probably) the best 90's Chicago house track - Sneak's Perennial "You Can't Hide From Your Bud". Simple but very, very effective ;)

Probably the funniest thread I've read in a post in a long time. Incredible banter on an always hot subject started with a hilarious comment ...

Live In Soul City

I had a superb trip daan saaf a couple of weeks ago to play for the Soul City squad (I even kept the flyer for posterity). They know their sh*t down there I tell thee. Anyway - here's most of my mix from the evening that the boys kindly sent over ...

Myself and Mr. Smith are thrilled to have our Soul Part II track as the debut release on Jimpster's new Delusions Of Grandeur imprint. If that's not enough ... John Daly gone done a damn fine deep diggler too. D.O.G. releases look set to slide somewhere between house and disco in your local emporium (or what Craig and myself call ... "it is but it isnae"). Available on 12" now and digital soon.

Red Rack Em' Remix

Danny's excellent 12" for Deep Freeze is out now in Phonica + Piccadilly. His 'Picnic' track reminds me of the best of that early detroit sound and I was chuffed to bits (like the short-sighted train spotter) when I was asked to contribute a remix.
